Title: Kaplnka svätej studne v Marianke
(Chapel of the Holy Well in Marianka) – PDF
Abstract: The aim of this paper is to summarize and present the historical circumstances of the establishment of the Chapel of the Holy Well at one of the oldest Marian pilgrimage sites in historic Hungary – Marianka near Bratislava. The unique central sacral building from the end of the 17th century still protects the place where the so-called Holy Water springs and co-determines the shape of the pilgrimage site in the forest valley. The paper will present the construction history and the unique painted decoration of the chapel. In particular, the dating of part of the decoration is the subject of authorial controversy. The paper also includes partial theoretical backgrounds of the constitution and the persistence of similar precious water sources at Marian pilgrimage sites.
