(Peter, son of Peter Peteňa – an Insight into the Role of a Prominent Figure of Slovak Medieval History) – PDF
Abstract: The period of the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries in eastern Slovakia is mainly known for the influence of the Aba family, which significantly overshadows the role of other families. The present paper focuses on one of these lesser-known families, more precisely on the family of the nobleman Peter, son of Peter Peteňa. The sources provide only limited information about his origins, and overall, the possessions of his ancestors are unclear. Nevertheless, it is clear that Peter belonged to a powerful nobility with extensive property holdings, and a large number of villages in eastern Slovakia associate their earliest history with his name. In this paper we will try to shed some light on Peter’s activities, property holdings and to some extent, his life.
