Title: Ostrov Hainburger Au – príspevok k vývoju historickej riečnej krajiny Dunaja v Devínskej bráne

(The „Hainburger Au“ River Island – Contribution to the Development of Historical Danube River Landscape in Devínska brána (Porta Hungarica)) – PDF

Abstract: The paper deals with the reconstruction of the formation and evolution of a river island under large anastomosing channel conditions using the Hainburger Au river island as an example. The island, situated in the exposed area of the Danube’s inlet into the Devínska brána (Porta Hungarica), represents an example of a composite point bar, whose development can be traced from the beginning on historical maps and in relict form with the help of Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR). The thesis focuses on the channel changes before the formation of the island and its gradual evolution in the context of major flood events as a determining factor of the river channel transformations. Chronologically, the work covers the period mainly from the mid-18th to the second half of the 19th century, when the channel development slowed down due to the regulation of the Danube, but is still ongoing today. The development of the island is studied in the thesis as a phenomenon conditioned by hydrological, morphological and biogeographical conditions, and at the same time as a persistent relict of this development. The main source of data is the analysis of historical maps using the retrograde method, hydromorphological analysis and LiDAR.
