Utrumque enim sigilium, tam Hungaricum quam Bohemicum, nostrum est.“ Representation of Matthias Corvinus’s Authority as the Bohemian King in the Crown Land (Silesia, Moravia, Upper Lusatia)

Abstract: The article addresses a problem still marginalized in historiography – the Bohemian royal dignity of Matthias Corvinus. The focus here is on the manifestations of its representation in the lands of the Crown, which is prompted by new interpretations. Among them is the newly recognized image of Matthias in the Church of the Holy Spirit in Krnov or the until recently unnoticed and unique heraldic motif (a raven in an eagle‘s body) in the Wrocław town hall. It should probably be associated with the king‘s attempt to ensure his succession based on Wrocław, the second city of the Bohemian Crown after Prague. The king‘s monument in Bautzen was also viewed differently. It is a demonstration of the king‘s prestige directed towards the Saxon duces and further areas of the Roman Empire. An interpretation of this monument in the biblical spirit was also proposed, as a manifestation of the king‘s reference to the patterns from the Old Testament: David and Solomon.
