Czechoslovak–Yugoslav Military Cooperation from the Late 1920s to the Mid-1930s

Abstract: This study focuses on Czechoslovak–Yugoslav relations in the field of military cooperation, with particular emphasis on the period of the so-called royal dictatorship in Yugoslavia (1929–1934). The aim of the article is to identify and analyse the key aspects of this cooperation and to assess their significance within the broader political, economic, and security context of the interwar period. The findings indicate that military cooperation did not serve solely as an instrument for strengthening regional security, but also functioned as a means of promoting the economic interests of Czechoslovak armaments circles in Yugoslavia. At the same time, the study highlights the internal limitations of the Little Entente, which proved insufficiently flexible and effective in responding to the growing influence of revisionist states. These factors significantly affected the stability of the alliance system in the first half of the 1930s.
