About the journal:

The Studia Historica Nitriensia (SHN) journal publishes original contributions on history, archaeology, museology/museography, and related disciplines that address the historical aspects of various phenomena and events. Interdisciplinary approaches to historical research are encouraged. In addition to historical, archaeological, or museological studies, the journal includes sections for materials, discussion contributions, perspectives, reviews, annotations of new literature, and chronicles with short reports from conferences and meetings. There is no chronological limitation, and while the primary geographical focus is on the history of Central Europe, contributions on broader European history are also welcomed.

History of the journal:

The journal began as a joint project of the Departments of History, Archaeology, and Museology at the Faculty of Arts of Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra. The first issue was published in 1993 under the editorship of Prof. E. Nižňanský, with Prof. E. Wiedermann taking over as the main editor in 2003. Until 2011, the journal was published annually as a collection. Since 2012, it has been published semiannually, and an international scientific board was established, comprising leading experts from domestic and foreign scientific and educational institutions. First editor-in-chief was Prof. Peter Chrastina (2013-2019), followed by Prof. Janka Hečková (2019-2021), and since 2021, the position has been held by Associate Prof. Miroslav Palárik. Over the years, renowned authors from Slovakia and abroad have published in the journal. Scientific board of the journal also provides space for emerging researchers.

All content is freely accessible without any charges to the user or their institution. There is no fee for publication.

Studia Historica Nitriensia is available for study in the study hall of the Philosophical Faculty of CPU, Hodžova 1 in Nitra. Older issues of the journal are sold in the e-shop at https://www.uk.ukf.sk/obchod/.
