Title: K otázke pravekého až včasnostredovekého osídlenia areálu Oponického hradu

(To the question of the prehistoric to early medieval settlement of the area of Oponice castle) – pdf

Abstract: The authors of the article are thinking about the possibility of using the space of the Oponice castle (SW Slovakia) – the castle hill in prehistoric times until the Early Middle Ages, i.e., before the construction of the high medieval castle. The initial impulse to solve this question was the findings (fragment of prehistoric pottery, quern stone, clay spindle whorl) obtained during archaeological excavation at the castle in 2018 and 2020. Their chronological classification points to the period of the Late Bronze Age/Hallstatt period, the Late La Tène period and the Roman period/Early Middle Ages. The castle hill in village Oponice has a convenient location, which could have been attractive for the prehistoric to early medieval population. We have recorded their traces through numerous settlements and settlement finds in the area below the castle.
