The Abandoned Glassworks „Drahožická huta“ in Skýcov (Zlaté Moravce District) in the Light of Non-destructive Archaeological Methods and Archival Sources
Abstract: The study focuses on research of the defunct glasswork Drahožicka huta in the cadastral area of Skycov (Zlate Moravce district, Slovakia), which appears in 19th century sources as Innocenzthal or Inczevolgy. The investigation consisted of archival-historical and archaeological researches. Archival-historical research provided new information about the spatial structure of the glasswork, its operation, and workers. Information gained from written sources were confronted with findings obtained from archaeological research of the glasswork‘ processing area. Through visualization of data from aerial laser scanning (ALS), it was possible to localize components of this area and verify them through field research. In this way, the upper and lower stamping mills, a roasting furnace, a water channel, and probable remains of a structure supporting a wooden trough used for supplying water to the stamping mill‘s waterwheel were discovered. The field relics were cleaned using a backpack blower, documented by photogrammetric scanning, and subsequently a 3D model of the roasting furnace was created. The non-destructive survey was supplemented by surface prospection in the area of the glassworkers‘ settlement, from which a set of colored glass fragments was obtained.
